Recycling is great but it requires energy and resources to collect, sort and process unwanted items and waste.
Like with everything else in life, thing evolve and what we thought was a good practice a while back
turned out not to be that efficient with time. Many recycled things or items that claim to be friendly to the environment are not really as “green” as they claim to be.
For example banana paper notebooks looked very nice and at first glimpse seem eco-friendly. But if you think about the product for a minute it you’ll see it is not as ecological as it seems. In the tropical countries where bananas are produced large amounts of tropical forest is cut down to produce bananas. And also a great deal of chemicals are being added to these banana plants to give the bananas a nice yellow healthy look.
Before you dump something in the recycling bins or even worse to the garbage can, think how you could re use that item or transform it into something else! In most cases you will not need much energy than your own. And putting that creativity to good use can save you money as well.
Benefits of Upcycling
– less things are going out to landfills
– in most cases no energy or little energy is being used than recycling those same items
– by using old items you save money and less items will need to be manufactured in the future
