Spring Cleaning the Green Way
Spring cleaning your home shouldn’t hurt the environment in the process. However, when we start to sort through boxes and boxes of stuff, cleaning out closets, organizing the garage, attic, or basement, unfortunately, this tends to end up with a whole lot of trash. At Revampt, we specialize in repurposing “trash” to create treasures. When you start your spring cleaning, take steps to do it the ecological way.
Reduce, reuse, and recycle your spring cleaning
When we are spring cleaning we are reducing the amount of stuff we have in our home. Clutter can suffocate a person, causing stress and anxiety. Spring cleaning is like giving yourself extra room to breathe. But, all the trash that comes from a good clean is suffocating our planet, so we need to be extra careful in how we sort and organize and clean so that we minimize waste.
When you are making piles, make them with “reduce, reuse, and recycle” in mind. Clothes, unless moldy or holy, can be donated or handed down to friends and family. Kids clothing is a great example of things that we tend to throw out even though they are perfectly wearable. Kids grow at an alarming rate; there’s just no need to invest in new clothing every time they outgrow a sweater or a pair of shoes. And, kids don’t care that something has been worn by someone else.
Donate old clothes, gadgets, or tools
You probably also have tons of gadgets you bought thinking your life would be easier. How many weird kitchen tools do you have that you never use because when it comes down to it, nothing works better than a good old fashioned sharp knife? We’re looking at you, weird herb and garlic chopper!
But, just because you’ve now seen the error of your ways doesn’t mean someone else isn’t ready to learn the hard way. If it ain’t broke, don’t throw it away! Donate it, or have a yard sale and you may even make back some of the money you wasted on useless gadgets.
And, last, just because something is broken, doesn’t mean that the materials used to make it aren’t still perfectly good. Anything that can be reused, recycled, or upcycled, you just need to use your imagination.
